A Strange Exchange between France and Iran?
The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was asked to free the French citizen Clotilde Reiss and he responded that France should also free Iranian prisoners and allow them to return home. According to Associated Press, when Ahmadinejad was told that Reiss’ father was impatiently waiting for her in France, he replied that the Iranian citizens in French prisons also have family waiting for them at home.
Ahmadinejad made his statement about Iranian prisoners in France in an interview with Marie Drucker on the French national television channel France 2 on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. It is unclear whether President Sarkozy will consider Ahmadinejad’s request or if Clotilde Reiss will leave Iran safely without the need for an exchange of prisoners.
