Plus Points for Iran?
In the past, I have received emails about some of my countrymen who have made a name for themselves. For example, Persians are proud that Omid Kordestani is an employee of Google or that Pierre Omidyar owns Ebay. I respect these types of successful Iranians a great deal, but they do not bring pride to our country.
I believe it is more important to be proud of what Persian/Iranian traditions have made our culture unique and respectable. On the Payvand website, I have read an article about the art of recycling in Iran that made me reminisce and also brought a feeling of pride.
Ahmad Nadalian, in his article “The Art of Recycling,” reminds that newspapers have many uses in Iran. They are used in the bazaar by fruit sellers as fruit wrappers, as tablecloth, and for other purposes. Nadalian’s article captures a piece of our culture and shows Iranians as minimalists and friends of the environment.
