Iranian Actress Makes It to Hollywood
In October 10th 2008, the movie Body of Lies was released. It became a huge success in Iran not because of the American actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Russel Crowe but because of the Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani. The Iranian audience is familiar with Farahani who started her cinematic career at the age of six. Her other famous and very popular movie Santoori was a great success in Iran when it came out in 2007. In Body of Lies Golshifteh plays Aisha, a Jordanian nurse, and grasps the attention of an American spy Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio).
Farahani faced problems in Sepebtember 2008 when she planned to travel to Hollywood for several meetings about her recent film. The Iranian authorities first confiscated her passport but then returned it to her. In October 2008, Golshifteh stated that she does not plan to return to Iran because of the sanctions she may face there.
